There is also several apartment homes in Newark. I would avoid Brookside, it’s not terrible but it’s just a crappier area of Newark. Very nice family area, lots of pets, parks, things to do. Good luckįairfield and westbranch are both neighborhoods in Newark super close drive/bike ride to campus. If you have any questions shoot me a message. I am a teacher who dabbles in real estate and knows the area exceedingly well. Those neighborhoods that were mentioned a few times like West Branch, Fairfield, etc are nice, but the market has been low on inventory and there may not be very much available in those areas and prices will reflect that. They will negotiate on price via financial aide. Stay to the west of Kirkwood HWY and south of Wilmington for the highest performing schools Cooke, North Star, Brandywine Springs, and Linden Hill, and HB DuPont (Middle).Īlso, don't overlook the private schools. Better schools than Christina with more options at the secondary level (performing arts, science, military, and an IB program), some amazing state and county parks (White Clay Creek and Middle Run Valley), and still relatively close to downtown Newark. Kind of boring with houses just scattered about imo. Heads up though, the whole area has seemingly been build on an old cornfield. Careful though, if you start to find houses that appear to be reasonable in price on the east side of Middletown, you may be looking at homes in the Colonial School District. Stick to the northern portions of that district. Newark Charter is not a guarantee and the wait list is extensive.Īppo in Middletown is pretty good, but as someone already mentioned, those classrooms are getting packed (with people fleeing Christina). Not to mention legitimate safety issues for staff and students that are not addressed because of how they have handled repeated lawsuits from advocacy groups. Test scores are awful, teacher turnover is trough the roof, and they seem to have budgetary issues every couple of years. I can't overstate what others have already mentioned.
